“We really want to encourage the whole family to come out and take part in this event,” Wade Huthmacher, president of the Massillon Amateur Radio Club, said in a news release. During a catastrophic event when electricity is out and cellphones are useless, ham radio operators provide critical communications. More than 35,000 amateur radio operators across the country participated in last year’s event, including members of the Massillon group. Stations will be set up to allow those interested to try it out for themselves. THE WILDERNESS CENTER has its ninth annual Romantic Moonlight Serenade from 7 to 10 p.m. today. Event includes wine tasting with Perennial Vineyards; dinner with many local food samplings; and Kentland String Ensemble. This event is exclusive and limited to a select number (first 200 registered receive free engraved wine glasses to take home). Cost is $25 member and $30 non-member.    Photographs will be accepted at the Massillon Museum’s reception desk during regular hours through Sunday for a special Studio M exhibition, which will run July 2 through Aug. 7. The RELAY FOR LIFE PHOTO EXHIBIT will showcase photographs by area residents and increase awareness for the Relay for Life effort to raise money for the fight against cancer. Photographs may relate to Relay for Life, or they may be favorite general images. Amateurs and professionals of all ages may submit photographs matted to 11-by-14 or framed and ready to hang. They must be labeled on the back with the photographer’s name, date of the photo, and suggested donation price. Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society. The annual MOUNT EATON FIREMAN’S FESTIVAL AND FIREWORKS is today at the Mount Eaton Elementary school grounds, 8746 South Market St., Mount Eaton. Free admission. Chicken barbecue starts at 4:30 p.m. with meal including half chicken, noodles, applesauce, dinner roll and drink for $8. Half chicken only is $5. Carryout is available. Games and music. Fireworks begin at 10:15 p.m. Proceeds benefit Paint Township Fire and Rescue Association in Mount Eaton.   A Massillon family will celebrate its 100th family reunion this weekend. The 100th KRISHER REUNION begins at noon Sunday at Richville Community Park. Family favorite foods will be shared, group pictures will be taken, children’s games, bingo and cards will be played.

Warmth – An Ayurvedic Cook Book (free) | Rejuvenation Lounge

I have some great news for you.   For a very limited time a favourite cook book of mine is now available for free on-line in e-book format.

“Warmth”  is vegetarian cookbook based on the Ayurvedic principles of good digestion, designed to bring great warmth into your food, cooking and life.  And, before you jump to the conclusion that its going to be filled with lots of  Indian dishes think again.  The recipes are modern, easy to follow and include styles such as Japanese, Italian and South East Asian.   Expect recipes like Thai sweet potato soup, green tea temple pudding, sesame and asparagus noodles and roasted beetroot sauce (yum).

Why I feel drawn time and time again to Ayurvedic meals is the fact they simply works for my digestion and body.  Always.

Warm light meals consistently help to calm and ground me – particularly of late with having to move home and start uni all within the space of 10 days.  Yep, my nervous system has been a little (alright alot) agitated of late.

To bring balance back into my body and mind –  as I find my academic study groove and balance my boys and life I’ve been eating light, warm, dishes with a few gentle spices to help my digestion.

I’ve written before about a fabulous mind body balancing dish called kitchari.  You might remember if you’ve been following my blog a while.

Well, what more can I say, there is no mistaking the wisdom in this ancient (thousands of years old) Indian medicine system called Ayurveda.
