Region's men 'clueless about DIY'
Men around the Leicestershire are clueless when it comes to achieving the basic skills mastered yourself by previous generations, a survey reveals.
Most men are now unable to change a light bulb, hang a picture, or replace a fuse without confusion, the survey shows Thomsonlocal.
About 2,000 men across the UK were surveyed on their basic skills and human capacities of the investigation.
A quarter of those who have shown they are not confident when it comes to change a light bulb, while a third was not sure replacing a fuse or wiring a plug, and 47% would not comfortable with bleeding a radiator.
While in Leicestershire about 75% of men were convinced they could replace a bulb, around 69.9% felt they could rewire a plug, if necessary, but only 48% said that they could bleed a radiator. However, they were less confident when it came to hanging is 25%, replacing 36% of a lock or change the oil in their cars by 27.8%.
Yet 93% of respondents in the UK felt it was important that men were able to complete the basic skills around the house, the survey shows.
In an effort to strengthen their capacity to craft Thomsonlocal launched its virtual human Academy of skills, give men the tools to tackle basic tasks and talk to merchants.
Jill Pringle, director of marketing, thomsonlocal.com: "We created Man Skills Academy to help men gain more confidence in the very basic DIY tasks related.
"It's hard to believe that almost 25% of men admit to not being able to change a light bulb properly. We worked with local businesses for 30 years and we want to help people learn these simple skills so they can work with people in business as efficiently as possible."
