Is there meaning behind those food cravings? « Born to Eat!

It is fascinating to me that our hunger for other desires or feelings can be seen in our eating patterns.  We are all different; hopefully that does not come as a surprise.  Likewise, the meanings and metaphors behind our food cravings are individualized.

Dr. Johnston gave us a general overview of some metaphors behind food cravings.

Did any of these resonate with you?  Food cravings may just seem like random cravings, but the metaphor behind why we crave certain foods is a telescope into our feelings and very beings.  Next time you are craving something and are not hungry try doing some detective work.  Non-judgmentally think about the events of the day and anything that might be triggering some feelings and emotions that you might be suppressing.  Learning food metaphors and the reasons for our cravings is a great opportunity to learn what we are truly hungry for.
